CID Full Form

CID acronym stands for Crime Investigation Department. It is an investigative and intelligence wing of the Indian State Police. This is one of the most important units of the police organization and is headed by the Additional Director General of Police (ADGP).

The acronym CID is well known to everyone in India. One of the most common reasons for this is that you must have heard the name of CID many times in movies and TV serials. The Crime Investigation Department of the State Police of India investigates any crime which requires a more serious investigation. The CID department usually works under intelligence and its members live in normal clothes without wearing any special uniform so that no one can identify them and it can investigate the crime and arrest them.

The CID investigates the specified cases assigned by the government. CID was set up by the British Government in 1902 on the recommendation of the Police Commission to maintain law and order in the country. The CID has its own rank of officers who usually work in plain clothes. These officers are known as spies or CID officers.

Eligibility to become a CID Officer

To become a CID officer, the candidate must first be a citizen of India. The minimum qualification of the candidate to join CID as Sub Inspector or Officer should be graduation from a recognized university.

The minimum qualification required by a candidate to join CID as a constable should be 12th or 10th. Apart from qualifying to become a CID officer, one must also pass the Indian Civil Services Examination which is conducted every year by the Union Service Commission.

In today’s time, there are many universities in our country India that offer courses in criminology at the undergraduate level. These courses can help you to become a CID officer.

To become a CID officer, the candidate should have an excellent memory, sharp eyes, good judgment of character, ability to work in a team. Apart from this, the most important thing is that the interested candidates should be single. If the candidate fulfills all the basic requirements of this job then he/she is eligible to become a CID officer.
