What is CNG Full Form?
The full form of CNG is Compressed Natural Gas. In today’s world, CNG gas is slowly taking its shape, today in many cities, vehicles are being run on gas, to promote this, the government is also making people aware, along with its details are also happening very fast.
Alternative for Fuels like petrol and diesel
It is a good alternative to Petrol, Diesel, and kitchens and also does not harm the environment much as compared to the original products. As far as its use is concerned, this Compressed Natural Gas is lighter than air and it is considered safer than other fuels. It spreads less pollution in the form of CO2, CO, NOx than petrol.
Like natural gas, compressed natural gas is also odorless and toxin-free. CNG Gas is a high-level Auto Ignition temperature of 540 Degree Celsius or more. The main component of CNG fuel is methane gas which remains in the amount of 75-98% at the normal level. There is very little loss due to the use of this gas, due to which there is no harm to the environment and a good atmosphere is formed.
CNG is used in internal combustion engines that are modified or manufactured for CNG use. The CNG is commonly used in buses around the world. In India, it is used in buses as well as three-wheeler autos. Its use as a vehicle fuel began in the late eighteenth century and the first natural gas vehicle (NGV) was patented in the US after World War II, it was used by Italy and some other European countries as the main source of fuel was accepted.
Brief History of CNG
The use of natural gas as a fuel for vehicles was started in the 1800s. Natural gas vehicles were first invented in the United States (US). After World War II, Italy and other European countries adopted CNG as the primary fuel.
CNG is found on oil deposits. It can also be collected from landfills and wastewater treatment plants. It is made by compressing natural gas to less than one percent of its standard atmospheric pressure. It is stored and distributed in very hard spherical or cylindrical containers under a pressure of 20-25 MPa.

Advantages of CNG
There are many benefits of CNG such as –
- CNG provides a high auto-ignition temperature of 540 °C or higher.
- Extends the life of CNG lubricant oils as it does not contaminate and dilute crankcase oil.
- The maintenance cost of vehicles running on CNG is very less as compared to vehicles running on petrol and diesel.
- CNG is more environmentally friendly as it emits less undesirable and harmful gases as compared to other alternatives i.e. diesel and petrol.
- CNG is cheaper as compared to its other options. For example – petrol and diesel are used to run buses, cars, and other automobiles.
