What is ED?
As we informed you the Enforcement Directorate is a special financial investigation agency working under the Department of Revenue, Ministry of Finance, Government of India.
It is also known as the Law Enforcement Agency and Economic Intelligence Agency of India. ED enforces economic laws in India.
These laws include the Foreign Exchange Management Act, 1999 (FEMA) and the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, 2002 (PMLA).
If any person is found to be in violation of the Foreign Exchange Management Act 1999 (FEMA) and the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, 2002 (PMLA), the ED has the power to investigate and arrest him.
