First IIT
The first IIT institute in India was IIT, Kharagpur which was established by the Government of India in 1951. Today there are 23 IITs in India that are located in different states and parts of the country. Lakhs of students study in these institutes.

What is JEE Mains?
The full form of JEE is the Joint Entrance Exam.
JEE Mains is a national-level entrance exam that is required to take admission in undergraduate engineering courses B.Tech & BE in NITs, IIITs, and CFTI colleges.
JEE Mains exam will be conducted 4 times a year from 2021 by NTA (National Testing Agency). These exams will be held in the months of February, March, April, and May. Almost all the students who go to IITs start preparing for IIT entrance exams after completing the 10th standard. These students join any coaching institute and do 11th, 12th together.
Qualification for IIT
To do IIT aspirants need to have a 12th pass from the science stream.
Note that it is mandatory to have Physics & Mathematics in class XII while Chemistry or Biotechnology is the third subject. Along with this, it is necessary to have 75% in 12th to go to IIT. There is also a provision of relaxation in % for SC, ST.
